Re: Ballscrew machining

Just use some brass or cupper shims between the jaws and the screw. For proper anglinement use a Test indicator driven by the Leadscrew to te same pitch as the Ballscrew to be dialed in. This will ensure a concentric true run of the turned portion. Before you start aneal the end of the Ballscrew part that you intend to turn to reduce the hardness of the metal. To do this wrap the rest of the screw in wet towels and leave the end to be anealed stick out. Then heat the end to a cherry red and hold tha even temerature there for 30 to 60 seconds, then slowly reduce the heat to allow the end to return to room temperatur. The slower the temeratur changes the better and the more softer the metal will get. Best done in a warm room with little airflow. After this you will be able to turn the end without problems.
